The Specialist Palliative Care Communities of Practice (CoP) serve as a dynamic and dedicated platform for a number of specialist disciplines working within the realm of palliative care across the island. These communities bring together skilled professionals who share a commitment to enhancing the quality of life for patients facing life-limiting conditions.
AIIHPC’s Communities of Practice provide a shared context for health and social care professionals to communicate and circulate information, and personal and professionals’ experiences in a way that builds new understanding and insights. They enable dialogue between people who come together to learn, solve shared problems, and create new, mutually beneficial opportunities. This lends itself to mutual learning, improving practice, building new knowledge and resources, fostering professional growth and networking and advancing the standards of palliative care across all relevant settings.

The Institute facilitates the development of Communities of Practice for relevant Specialist Palliative Care (SPC) practitioners. These communities regularly come together on an all-Island basis to present and discuss good practice and challenges their disciplines face. They operate under an agreed Terms of Reference and are chaired by members of the group.
The Community of Practice model provides an interactive opportunity for SPC practitioners in 12 areas and there are over 400 practitioners across these communities.
