The All Ireland Palliative Care Education Network is an all-island interprofessional community of practice that connects those who design, deliver, commission and regulate palliative care education alongside practitioners working across diverse care settings. The network is supported by the All Ireland Institute of Hospice and Palliative Care.
Aligned with the AIIHPC’s Strategic Plan 2024 – 2028 and the National Adult Palliative Care Policy, the Education Network supports a coordinated and collaborative approach to palliative care education across health, social care, hospice and community settings. High quality palliative care education underpins the delivery of safe, effective and person-centred care and supports the achievement of shared health and palliative care policy objectives across both jurisdictions.
The Education Network brings together 59 representatives including educators, commissioners, regulators, and professionals from a wide range of organisations to share learning, strengthen educational quality and respond to evolving workforce and population needs. It provides a forum for collaboration, knowledge exchange and innovation, supporting professionals to develop the skills, competence and confidence required to care for people with life-limiting conditions, their families and communities.
The Education Network is Chaired by Dr Michael Connolly, Joint Associate Professor of Clinical Nursing at UCD School of Nursing, Midwifery & Health Systems and Our Lady’s Hospice & Care Services.
The Hospice Education Providers (HEP) Network is a subgroup of the All Ireland Palliative Care Education Network. Hospice Education Providers Network brings together colleagues from across the island of Ireland who are engaged in specialist palliative care education and working in hospices. This network creates dedicated space to share information, exchange resources and offer mutual support with the aim of strengthening education provision and collaboration in hospice and palliative care.
The network meets quarterly and through these meetings and shared resources members can stay connected, avoid duplication and build on one another’s expertise. This network provides opportunities to highlight innovative approaches, discuss challenges and promote best practice in specialist palliative care education in practice. The network aims to enhance the reach, quality, and impact of education for those working to provide compassionate person centred palliative care across the island of Ireland.
There is a shared resource area on the learning platform which is open to members of the network.
