Seminar, 11 June from 10am – 4 pm in Ashling Hotel, Dublin.
The seminar was targeted at people working within specialist palliative care services and it was an opportunity to explore current rehabilitative practices across specialist palliative care services both on the island of Ireland and internationally. It provided the opportunity for lateral thinking to consider the expected increase in demand for palliative care services including rehabilitative services which support people in reaching their physical, social, emotional and spiritual potential consistent with physiological and environmental limitations and preferences. There is a growing demand on services due to an aging population and more people living longer with multiple chronic illnesses.

In November 2025, the ‘All Ireland Position Paper on Rehabilitative Palliative Care’ was published which was developed by Dr Elizabeth Morrow and Professor Mary Lynch from the Royal College of Surgeons Ireland (RCSI) and commissioned by the All Ireland Institute of Hospice and Palliative Care (AIIHPC). Grounded in a mixed-methods, participatory process, the paper draws on a scoping review of international evidence, cross-border stakeholder engagement and expert consensus to articulate a shared vision for RPC policy and practice across both jurisdictions.
