Rehabilitative Palliative Care on the island of Ireland Webinar – 5 February 2026

Introduction:

Rehabilitative Palliative Care (RPC) integrates rehabilitation principles into palliative and end-of-life care with the aim of supporting function, autonomy, participation and quality of life for people with life-limiting illness. While RPC is gaining international recognition, its implementation across the island of Ireland remains limited and inconsistent.

This webinar launched and explored the findings of a recently published All Ireland Position Paper on Rehabilitative Palliative Care, developed by Dr Elizabeth Morrow and Professor Mary Lynch from the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery, Royal College of Surgeons Ireland (RCSI) and commissioned by the All Ireland Institute of Hospice and Palliative Care (AIIHPC). Grounded in a mixed-methods, participatory process, the paper draws on a scoping review of international evidence, cross-border stakeholder engagement and expert consensus to articulate a shared vision for RPC policy and practice across both jurisdictions.

Shared practice-based insights from rehabilitative palliative care services
Facilitated cross-border dialogue on implementation priorities, education and service development

The webinar was aimed at health and social care professionals working across palliative care services or those with an interest in palliative care.
